Are you going to be a father? Is it a cesarean Delivery? Then you should know these?-(What a father should know during a cesarean delivery.)

Hey friends,

Being a father or a mother is one of the most important milestones of life, being in that pregnancy mode for many months and finally now you are coming to the point where there is a final mission to be accomplished.

I am actually not an expert on this, but I will be sharing this based on my personal experience so that this would in some way help thousands of fathers around the globe who are just like me, most fathers are pretty much excited, afraid or even thrilled during this course of time.

So, to begin with I will be updating on all the aspects from start on.

The normal pregnancy time of any women in the world who are expecting is 40 weeks. The time frame and the expected date of delivery (EDD) is calculated using a method called the ultra sound scan method.
Or sometimes it can also be calculated manually using the stoppage of the period pattern of your wife.

So, after noting that you are pregnant (Will use “you are pregnant” because in this time frame both of you will be moving forward with the word “We are Pregnant”) use any method to determine the EDD, basically you should scan a good gynecologist for this purpose.

During the course of the pregnancy there are 3 detailed scans done by the doctor.

They are,
1.    The Dating Scan-This is performed to determine the EDD of the baby and the time plane will be set based on this. It is done when it is 12 Weeks.
2.    The Anomaly Scan-At this point you will get to know whether it is a girl or boy you are having, it also determines the growth till date and the way the baby has grown. This is done in 22 weeks
3.    The growth scan-Performed when the age is 32 Weeks, this determines the growth of the baby the and the precautions that should be taken.

During this time frame you will have to do many blood tests like the sugar test to determine whether there is an increase in the sugar levels, the pressure monitoring is always done to determine the pressure of the mother. Full blood counts etc.
There are most importantly 2 vaccination that the mother should take, they are known as the toxoids, the mother is given two of those during the period of pregnancy at different times.

So that is an overview of what should be done during pregnancy.
This article is mainly based on the flow process or the methodology a father should know during the birth of his child.

There are 2 methods of delivery they are,

1.    Normal Delivery
2.    Cesarean Delivery.

When normal delivery the mother should stay for 40 weeks and when there is pain, she should be admitted to the hospital and she gives birth to her child naturally, she pushes her baby out by strength.

During cesarean delivery what happens is that, since the baby is fully grown after 38 weeks the doctor recommends the couple to get admitted before the natural pains arise and the baby is taken by means of a surgery.

Which is better? So, when I asked my doctor on this, he said that, it is good for the baby if it is a cesarean, and it is good for the mother if it is normal, this actually does not in any way mean that it is bad for the baby if it is normal or it is bad for the mother if it is cesarean.
However, I chose cesarean because I thought that it would be better that way.

So, during cesarean what are the tips a father should follow.
1.          As an overview know that that it would take 2.5 to 3 days in a hospital and if you have and insurance then good, better use it or else you should find some cash for this.

2.          The doctor will be giving you the date and time the delivery will be done based on your opinion as well, for an example as per your date and time and in which hospital that you like to have the baby.

3.          So, you will admit your wife 12 hrs. before the delivery, that is if you are performing the delivery in the morning you should admit yourself in the night the day before.

4.          Your wife will be kept on fasting for about 8 hrs. if I am correct before the delivery.

5.          Once you get admitted the reception will provide the packages that are available in the process, it is better if you use a 3-day package, do not make it short because you will have lots to learn.

6.          Do not be in a rush to go home take it slow and grasp all that is essential slow, do take notes if essential now since you chose a package for 3 days or more. It does not mean that you should stay there for the total time frame but as per my experience I think that staying in the hospital for 2.5 days to 3 is a must, it’s all up to you.

7.            Now that you have taken the package and gone to the room better notify the insurance persons on the situation, tell them the room number and let them know that you are there so that the will be ready when we need them.

8.            Your wife will be taken to do blood tests and so forth prior to the delivery.

9.            When it is the time of an operation you will be able to stay near her, I think that most of the hospitals today do that.

10.                       You will be given a particular dress, a cap and a face mask along with shoes, you should wear them and go near your wife.

11.                       Be sure to take a phone with a good cam and a watch to monitor the time. Do not take any valuables they won’t allow them in.

12.     You can talk with your wife during the surgery so that she is calm and show her that you are in good sprit. The procedure will take around 15 minutes.

13.                       The doctor will show the baby to your upside down, the baby will cry which is the first breath that the baby takes, an emotional moment this.

14.                       The doctors will check the baby and they will ask you to come and watch the baby separately.

15.                       While the doctor does the wrapping up of the surgery you will be taken out and normally there will be other fathers around you who are anxious as well.

16.                       You will have to stay for around 1 hour there while your wife and the baby comes to the room.

17.                       The baby will be fed in the surgery room and after coming to the room again she will be fed under the supervision of a nursing officer.

18.                       Your wife will not be allowed to get down from the bed for about 12 hrs. and after that it is not still easy, she will be in pain, but the pain killers will do the trick.

19.                       Feeding the baby should take place regularly under 2-3hrs time frames.

20.                       This feeding criteria is very important because the milk that you wife is generating has not come to an optimum amount yet but you still need to give your baby milk, this is tricky.

21.                       The point why I said that you should stay for 3 days comes to play here, the nursing staff will monitor and see how you are feeding the child, what are the errors you make an also the number of times the baby urinated and popped.

22.                       This is very important because if the baby do not get the required amount of milk in these initial days, she will turn yellow and then it becomes a bit complicated, even though there are medications for that it is always better to avoid it.

23.                       Find out methods on how to feed the child, the angles and how the nipple is inserted to the mouth, the method to bath, milk feeding pattern time frames etc.

24.                       Learn the vaccination months dates and who to contact for any issues. For an example the BCG vaccine should be given to the child within 24 hrs. from the birth.

25.                       Notify the insurance authorities that you are ready to discharge and to settle the bill.

26.                       They will do it either online or the will be visiting the hospital.

27.                       Note that they will be thoroughly looking at the bill, based on the policy the payment changes, for an example mine did not cover the cost for vitamins and extra meals.

28.                       After learning right, you can go home.

29.                       After coming hope it will be another new experience because the baby will feel a environment change, he/she will start crying for no reason’s, try your best to settle him/her down by breast feeding.

30.                       The baby will try to sleep for more that 4 hrs. do not let her/him do that wake him/her up and feed because your baby needs milk right now ant it is the only method of nutrition.

31.                       And another important notice is that you should carry on the pain killers at lease for 5 days because the pain will star once you do not take them, but after a few days it will be alright.

32.                       Visit the doctor who did the surgery in about 2 weeks and get knowledge on how she is and what should be done.

So basically, that’s it. How was your experience on this sort of scenario? Do you have any questions? Comment below I will try to answer you using my experience.
