Hey friends,
Today we are going to discuss on a
personal experience of mine; that is what happens when you drop a phone in
water. Actually, I dropped my phone in the toilet. Opss…
So, if you drop your phone into
water what you will do is to see whether it is working, let’s say your phone was
working fine then what you will do is you wipe your phone and use it as usual.
What happened to me was that I dropped
my phone into the toilet and I washed it till it was clean. Unusually my phone
gets wet and since it is water resistant I did not care. I did put my phone
into my pocket and went away to work.
So, what is the meaning of a phone being water resistive? Is it
similar to what is being said as water proof?
If the phone is water proof that
means that you can use it under water but the issue is if there is a small
crack or some issue with the phone cover then you may say bye to the phone.
These days phone manufacturers use
the IP rating which is the ingress protection rating to rate their phone, that
is it specifies how well it performs under water.
Basically, IP rating is used for
water resistive phones giving limitations to the way you use a phone in water.
I will be doing a detailed discussion
on the IP rating in the near future.
So, the next question that arises
is that if the phone is water resistive can I use it with water on it? the
answer for that my friend is No, if the phone is water resistant then be sure
to not apply water on it for too long because you are never sure.
For an example the iPhone X has an
IP rating of IP67 that means that you may use the phone under water for 30mins
in a depth of 1 to 1.5 meters, having said that are you going to do that, my
answer to that is NO because these are test results done in labs for pure water.
So, what happened to my phone?
Actually, I was careless I did put
my phone in my pocket and went to work. In the office I took out my phone since
I wanted to take a call, the phone was off it was only 6 months old and I even
had warranty, soon I released that there is no warranty component for water
damaged phones.
So how can I overcome this?
I took a bowl of rice and put it
in there, I was anxious and through numerous reading through websites I got to
know that even though rice absorbs water the dust in there will create corrosion
in my board.
It is not water that actually corrodes
the board but it is the particles that are mixed in it.
If your phone is damaged through
water please do not put it in a rice but start using a hair drier to dry it, I couldn’t
find a hair dryer so I went to an alternative solution, I went for a phone
service If you do not dry it properly corrosion will start doing its work.
After about a day I managed to
start up the phone but it was under reboot, the service person told me that
there was an issue with the board.
I did not want to give up on my
phone since It was quite new.
What I did was I made it to
dehydrate; that is by keeping it in shed or in sunlight till about 7 days.
Went to another phone repairer and
told him to see how many IC’s have gone wrong.
One fine evening he told me that
there was an issue with an IC and he replaced it and the phone is now working
fine.
I did manage to recover my phone but
lost all my memory.
So, I did this by going through
tons of research.
Let me jot them done so that you may use it.
Let me jot them done so that you may use it.
1.
If you drop your phone in water do not do anything just switch it off.
Do not charge it or switch it on Yet
2.
Do not put it in rice, but try other ways to dry the phone for an
example using a hair dryer.
3.
If you are good with phone, remove the phone to pieces and keep it
in an AC room for and example a server room for about 3-4 days.
4.
If you do not have an AC room, wrap the components in a sealed bag
and put it in the deep freezer for about a week.
5.
If you cannot do the work list above then immediately go to a
phone repairer and ask him to service it immediately.
6.
Switch on the phone and it will work.
7.
If you switched it on or charged it when it was in contact with water,
check for any IC damages after the drying process, replace them and it will
work.
Have you dropped your phone on water? Have you recovered your
phone? Tune in and join the discussion.
