Potential divider circuit or a voltage divider
circuit is used to divide voltages among resistors used in series in order to
gain uses of these voltage drops, this is a very useful and common circuit in
electronics.
The
method is very simple, you can vary the resistance connected so that your
required voltage is gained at the required point.
Vout is the point where we need
the voltage that we require.R1 and R2 are series resistors, Vin is the input
voltage and Vo is the Earth or 0V(can be any voltage below Vin).
Applying Kirchhoff law for the
total system,
Therefore,
by changing the resistance ratio we can get the desired voltage at Vout since
Vin is a constant.
